Ben10 is number 1

Rainbow cake is getting “numbered” again 😉 This time it is the number “1”..Nurul from kuantan requested the cake for her nephew’s first birthday 🙂

As usual I baked a Square rainbow cake and layered them to start with..and cut into pieces like these

image

Arrange them into the number 1 (cut off a bit to make it perfectly number 1 and glued the pieces together with icing)

image

image

Covered the cake with icing..and now I love piping the sides of a rainbow cake with stripes of colors 😉

image

Nurul requested a Ben10 themed cake..and she wanted to put the birthday boy s picture on the cake..but since it was a very last minute order, I didn’t have time to prepare the edible image for the cake..so I gave her an alternative..photo flags to stick on the cake

image

Hope Nurul and her family is happy with the cake 😀 and I do hope she would share her pic of the cake with me..if she does I”ll share em with u 😉

63

Making a numbered cake is always fun..this time I’m doing a double digit cake – 63..it was a challenge for me as I’m used to make cheerful and cute single digit cakes for kids 😉

This 63 numbered cake is for a mom as a special gift from her kids..Kak Ida from bukit sekilau, Kuantan and her siblings wanted a number 63 cake for their mom..I feel happy to make the cake because I was given the freedom to use my creativity on this cake (every baker appreciates this i think..hehee)

At first I still had no idea on how to decorate the cake..even after the cake was baked I was still not inspired..hehe..but I kept on going..carved the cake into “63” (only after the cake was 100% done I realized a spot I forgot to carve on the number 3)

image

As I was deciding the color for the cake..the design of the just came to me..yay! The theme was pink and I suddenly was in the mood for roses 😉

image

image

And I was in the mood for chocolates..so here’s the cake fully decorated with buttercream roses and heart shaped chocolates all over..I hope it’s not too much..LoL

This was my favourite piece on this cake

image

I do hope kak Ida n her family especially her mom is happy with this cake 🙂

Send-a-cake: mini doll cake

I just love send-a-cake requests! Today I sent off this cute mini doll cake as a surprise for the birthday girl from someone special who couldn’t be with her on her special day..I love making people happy and making relationships stronger 😉

image

image

I purposely make the writing in a slightly darker shade to make it subtle rather than contrasting colors as I want eyes to focus on the doll cake, yet make it a personalised cake especially for the birthday girl..it is special but not too loud..I think..LOL

Halloween Cake

Got a request to make a Halloween themed cake, and I was all up for it 😉 when u think of Halloween, what comes to your mind? I pictured black cats, spiders n their creepy webs,  witches, ghosts, graveyards, and of course those carved pumpkins 😀

The color theme was black and orange (typically Halloween rite ;p) I first covered the cake with orange buttercream..then piped black and darker orange stripes around the cake

image

Draw a spiderweb and a spider in it (piped all “black things” on the cake using ganache”..that is one tasty spider!)

Another spider

A black cat

A bat

Here is the cake 😉

Mini Doll cake

Found this cute little doll..just had to grab her n make her a cake! 😉

Since its just a small doll, one small cake was sufficient enough (half a batter)

Piped some frosting on the board to “glue” the cake on the board..I used a 7inch round cake board for this cute lil cake

image

Place the cake on the board and cut a small hole in the middle to place the doll (I baked a chocolate cake in a small bundt pan)

image

Wrap the little darling with plastic wrap and “stick” it in the cake

image

Coat the cake with icing

image

Piped some icing on her body for clothing, and some detailings for her dress..I made a very simple design..just some pink swirls in front and sprinkled some decorative sugar on the dress 😉

Romantic red velvet cheesecake

It’s the red velvet cheesecake’s turn to get all romantic 😉

A heart shaped red velvet cake for the base

image

Decorate it with bright red rossettes to add more flair..”can u feel the love tonight”

image

To get a smooth border of red velvet cake crumbs, i press them gently towards the cake using a butter knife

A personalised birthday wish from a wife to her beloved husband

Rilakkuma cake

Do u know japan’s laziest bear..yeah u guessed it..it’s Rilakkuma! Hehe

Got a request to make this cute bear from a small rainbow cake..so I baked a square rainbow cake in a 7×7 pan (which I just bought, specially for this cake project)..layer them..crumb coat and chill in the fridge for a while and carved the shape of Rilakkuma’s head 😉

image

Cover the whole cake with brown buttercream (I was really happy with this color – mix brown and yellow)

image

Smoothed the buttercream and draw a white blob for his mouth and nose later on

image

Draw some details – eyes, nose n mouth

image

Add a black outline and fill in the ear with yellow frosting..and here we have my version of a Rilakkuma cake..

My “engineering drawing” for the cake..LOL

Cake project: Elmo cake

Elmo..either u love him or u despise him..hehe..he’s got a lot of fans out there..that’s for sure 😉

Nurul requested the cake to be round..usually we would make elmo cakes with elmo’s head shaped..so round elmo it is 😉

Baked a moist chocolate cake (1 batter) in a deep 10 inch pan and crumb coat it with red buttercream..I used a combination of americolor red colors – red red, super red and a bit of maroon..and used the grass tip to pipe elmo’s fur

image

I noticed elmo has a very large nose..so I cut out a rectangular piece of cake (leftovers from previous cake project)..shaped it into a large round nose and coat with orange buttercream

image

Put the nose in the freezer for a while, and once the buttercream hardens a bit, took it out and smoothed it using the back of a butter knife (or a spatula if u like)..and I piped some black buttercream for the eyes too 😉

image

Assemble the parts and here we have an elmo cake..the eyeballs are just blobs of buttercream

image

It kind a look like any other monster from seasame street..hehe..if it is in blue it would definitely look like the cookie monster or even grover..LOL
